How to create the perfect CV!

In recruitment we are inundated with CVs on a daily basis. We’d love to say that every single one of them is just what we’re looking for, but in a lot of cases they are unfortunately not…

Here’s a few things we think are important when making your CV -

DO YOUR RESEARCH

It’s important to tailor your CV to the job which you are applying for, research the job, the brand/company and use this within your CV to really engage with the employee.

EXPRESS YOURSELF

Use your CV to express your personality - love the colour blue? Add some blue to it - interested in art? Add plenty of graphics. Try not to go overboard but definitely be creative and show some of your personality through your CV.

KEEP IT UPDATED

As a recruiter it’s incredibly frustrating reading a CV and the last job listed was 3 years ago. When applying for new jobs, take the time to reread through your CV, add any extra jobs or experiences and update any personal details which may have changed.

INCLUDE CONTACT INFORMATION.

Put down as many personal details as you feel comfortable, the most important ones are a telephone number and email address so that employers can get in touch with you. A location is always a good thing for employers to know also, if you are happy to disclose that.

ADD THE PERFECT INTRODUCTION

Keep it short and snappy but be sure to include a little about yourself, what type of work/roles you’re looking for and why this interests you.

HIGHLIGHT YOUR EXPERIENCE.

Keep it relevant to the job you’re applying for! Highlight all your most recent experiences and job positions, don’t go too far back - keep things within the past 10-12 years.

INCLUDE YOUR EDUCATION

Courses, degrees, any qualifications you may have - feel free to include them so we know what education you’ve had which may be relevant to the job you’re applying for.

MENTION KEY SKILLS

Any extra skills, awards or certificates which you may have can be included to add to your CV. Again, keep it short and sweet - but no harm in adding them.
